W. Timothy Toole

President and Chief Executive Officer

Tim Toole serves as president and chief executive officer and is responsible for setting the strategic direction for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar), the distributor of Colony NorthStar, Inc.’s retail investment products, as well as the day-to-day management of the broker-dealer. He brings to this position more than 25 years of successful leadership at both public and private real estate organizations and investment companies. Mr. Toole has successfully structured and managed sales, marketing and account development teams and worked in the distribution of a diverse number of investment products, including non-traded REITs, variable annuities, structured products, and unit investment trusts. As a result, he has a depth of product knowledge and a unique understanding of the most effective ways to work with Broker-Dealers and Financial Advisors to achieve results in the financial services industry. In his career, he has overseen or personally raised over $25 billion in assets.

Prior to joining NorthStar in September 2009, Mr. Toole was with RiverSource Investments, the investment management arm of Ameriprise, where he managed a distribution team responsible for $3.3 billion in annual sales throughout the United States. Previously, Mr. Toole served as director of Hines Real Estate Securities, a global real estate investment firm, as well as director of business development and distribution with fixed income securities, director of alternative investments and strategic planning with Deutsche Bank/Scudder investments and senior vice president for the insurance products division of Kemper/Scudder Investments. Mr. Toole is a former National Association for Variable Annuities (NAVA) presenter and a member of the Financial Planning Association, the Investment Program Association and the Institutional Management Network.

Paul Grumann

Senior Vice President, Director of Account Management

Based in Denver, CO, Paul Grumann serves as senior vice president and director of account management for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar). Mr. Grumann oversees the efforts of the strategic accounts team and is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to expand distribution and strengthen NorthStar’s broker-dealer relationships.

Mr. Grumann is a 16-year veteran of the financial services industry. Most recently, Mr. Grumann was the vice president of strategic accounts for NorthStar where he supported developing relationships by driving education, marketing and value-add resources to advisors and clients. Prior to that role he was the vice president, internal sales where he managed the internal sales desk and supported internal sales for NorthStar’s Mountain State Region.

Before joining NorthStar, he was a regional vice president for Dividend Capital Securities where he was responsible for marketing both their non-traded real estate investment trust (REIT) products and 1031 exchange platform.

Paul Grumann

Based in Denver, CO, Paul Grumann serves as senior vice president and director of account management for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar). Mr. Grumann oversees the efforts of the strategic accounts team and is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to expand distribution and strengthen NorthStar’s broker-dealer relationships.

Jay Dobbs

Divisional Vice President

Jay Dobbs serves as Divisional Vice President at NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar) where he oversees the external wholesaling teams located in the eastern United States. He is responsible for developing territory business plans and implementing the retail distribution strategy for NorthStar’s institutionally managed alternative investment programs. Mr. Dobbs also assists in strategic sales initiatives, including expansion into new distribution channels and the continued growth of NorthStar’s alternative investment platform in the broker-dealer community.

Mr. Dobbs has accumulated vast experience and knowledge in various capacities of wholesaling throughout his almost 20 years in the financial services industry, including 13 years in the alternative investment space and a successful track record of raising capital through multiple broker dealer channels. Mr. Dobbs joined NorthStar in 2000 and served as senior regional vice president covering the Southeast region of the United States prior to his current role.

Prior to joining NorthStar, Mr. Dobbs served as first vice president with Inland Securities where his responsibilities included wholesale distribution for the East Coast and as regional sales consultant distributing limited partnerships and non-traded REITs for Wells Real Estate.

Eric Graber

Divisional Vice President

Prior to joining NorthStar, Mr. Graber served as Regional Vice President with ING Investment Management where his responsibilities included the wholesaling efforts for ING’s mutual fund platform. He also worked for Dividend Capital Securities as a wholesaler for both their non-traded REIT product and 1031 Exchange platform.

Kristen Whealon

Chief Compliance Officer

Kristen Whealon serves as chief compliance officer for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar), a position she has held since December 2011. She also serves as global chief compliance officer for Colony NorthStar, Inc., a position she has held since January 2017 having previously served as global chief compliance officer for NorthStar Asset Management Group Inc., the predecessor to Colony NorthStar, since April 2014.

Ms. Whealon’s responsibilities include regulatory and compliance oversight for the broker-dealer and registered investment adviser, maintaining written supervisory procedures, managing the internal audit process, maintaining the firm’s books and records, handling regulatory examinations and investigations and reviewing and approving advertising and sales literature.

Prior to joining NorthStar, Ms. Whealon was an assistant compliance officer at Geneos Wealth Management, Inc. from August 2002 to November 2011 where she provided compliance support to more than 250 registered representatives. Ms. Whealon began her career at American Express Financial Advisors, Inc.

Kristen Whealon

Kristen Whealon Chief Compliance Officer

Kristen Whealon serves as chief compliance officer for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar), a position she has held since December 2011. She also serves as global chief compliance officer for Colony NorthStar, Inc., a position she has held since January 2017 having previously served as global chief compliance officer for NorthStar Asset Management Group Inc., the predecessor to Colony NorthStar, since April 2014.

Rebecca Cleary

Vice President,
Corporate Communications and Marketing

Rebecca Cleary serves as vice president, corporate communications and marketing and is responsible for overseeing and executing all strategic marketing and communications initiatives for Colony NorthStar, Inc. (Colony NorthStar) including sales-support initiatives, collateral development, brand management and directing the day-to-day activities of the marketing department.

Prior to joining Colony NorthStar, Ms. Cleary served as vice president, marketing & communications with Steadfast Companies and was accountable for the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of marketing and communications activities. From 2005 – 2010, Ms. Cleary was the director of marketing at Grubb & Ellis Company (formerly Triple Net Properties, LLC) where she was responsible for spearheading all corporate marketing initiatives and played a key role in Grubb & Ellis’ investment management platform and launching two public, non-traded REIT offerings.

Rebecca Cleary

Rebecca Cleary serves as vice president, corporate communications and marketing and is responsible for overseeing and executing all strategic marketing and communications initiatives for Colony NorthStar, Inc. David Swift

Vice President,
Director of Operations

David Swift serves as vice president, director of operations. Prior to joining Colony NorthStar, Inc., Mr. Swift was the senior vice president of operations & technology at Welton Street Securities. In that role he was responsible for establishing the infrastructure and operations required for processing the Life Income Funds of America.

Mr. Swift also worked with NorthStar Realty Finance Corp., the predecessor to Colony NorthStar, to establish and run the operations of the NorthStar Income Opportunity REIT I Reg D offering. Prior to Welton Street Securities, Mr. Swift was the senior vice president & general manager of Broadridge’s Securities Industry Software (SIS) in Wheat Ridge, CO. In that role he ran a business that provided real-time, integrated securities processing for all types of brokerage businesses, including retail and discount firms, day trading firms, investment advisors, correspondent clearing agencies, institutional traders, and regional broker/dealers. Mr. Swift developed, operated, and supported over 200 financial industry applications in a service bureau environment that included investor websites, broker workstations, order management, back office clearance & settlement, statements, confirms, and government reporting. Additionally, Mr. Swift led the sales, account management and strategic planning functions of the business that resulted in annual double digit increases in new business and the successful acquisition and integration of three businesses. SIS was previously a subsidiary of ADP and was spun off as its own business in 2007. Some notable clients of SIS include Merrill Lynch, BNP Paribas, Cetera Investment Services and D.A. Davidson.

David Swift

David Swift Vice President, Director of Operations

David Swift serves as vice president, director of operations. Prior to joining Colony NorthStar, Inc., Mr. Swift was the senior vice president of operations & technology at Welton Street Securities.
